What is Ethical Leather?
There is no recognised one way of categorising leather for either carbon footprint or ‘organic-ness’
However, there are groups of people throughout the world working for sustainability & reduction of leathers’ environmental impact, involving constant research.
At present customers of leather products can only examine the credentials, values & results of people that are selling them. It will be a gradual process because of the infrastructure that has developed, but we will get there.
Ethical Statement
Every one of our products is as unique and individual as our clients with hand-made items created in small quantities ensuring that no two pieces created will ever be the same. With all production carried out in-house at our UK, Sheffield studio, we are able to ensure that all processes employed maintain the highest quality standards while remaining friendly to the environment around us.
All aspects of the business are ethical, right down to the paper we print on. We work in partnership with a number of suppliers who echo our passion and pledge to the environment.
All the leathers used in our ranges are sourced from tanners who share our strict ethical vision. The leather comes from animals organically fed and humanely raised, are by-products of the meat industry and sourced from local farms around the UK, supporting the British economy. They are all tanned with the most current technologies and research, the result is natural sustainable chrome-free leather.
Wherever prints are used, they are created from water-based materials and bio-resins for hardware details are also fundamental to our process. Linings are made of organic, fair-trade GOTS certified cotton. Any other metals and zips used are chrome and nickel free. Finishing touches and details are also considered, the most eco-benign glues and eco-finishes available on the market are employed.
All the tissue paper and cardboard boxes used in our packaging is made using recycled materials. All scraps of leather are reused, nothing is thrown away. Paper and printer cartridges used in the business are recycled, and energy saving bulbs are used in the studio.
We are a member of Federation of Small Businesses and Ethical Junction.
